SHATZI IS DYING follows the story of two lesbians, a photographer and a filmmaker, as they try to come to terms with the overwhelming amount of AIDS related deaths they've documented, and the frequent near-deathexperiences of their beloved rescue doberman. By juxtaposing ancient history and religious beliefs with queer culture, this videotape sheds light on the strategies that have enabled people throughout time to survive and ensure their histories. SHATZI IS DYING is an often humorous meditation on death and the desire to preserve life in the moment.
"Carlomusto's SHATZI IS DYING stands alongside Tom Joslin's SILVERLAKE LIFE, Marlon Riggs, BLACK IS, BLACK AIN'T, and Gregg Bordowitz's FAST TRIP, LONG DROP as well as many other videos that transform the documentary form through their encounters with mortality".
